For her first solo presentation, Stella has made a series of drawings and paintings as well as a special site specific installation. The title of the show is borrowed from Jill Scott’s song Family Reunion from the 2004 album Beautifully Human, elements of which are sampled from the 1973 The Escorts song Look Over Your Shoulder (recorded while the members were in incarceration in New Jersey). Family Reunion describes all the different goings on at a family party. Stella’s work expresses the complicated intricacies of close interpersonal dynamics, body language, and all that stuff swept under the rug.
